Sought-after, bestselling, Oprah-featured author, speaker and business consultant Fawn Germer gave an inspiring talk on embracing risks and setting boundaries to help build the confidence and esteem you need to succeed in life.

Pictured above from top to bottom and left to right:
a.) Denise Nostrom delivered a checklist of must-haves for extraordinary financial health.
b.) Bill Corbett compelled his audience to understand effective communication in leadership.
c.) Domenique Camacho Moran discussed embracing diversity as a way to achieve success.
d.) Dona Rutowicz presented essential leadership skills to achieve the C-suite.
e.) Select guests of our top sponsors—Farrell Fritz and Adecco—had an intimate, roundtable discussion on work / life balance with keynote speaker Fawn Germer.

The formal presentations for the day were wrapped up with a tremendous power panel of extraordinary women including: Vicki Schneps Yunis (Founder, Publisher and CEO of Schneps Communication), Beverly Fortune (Chief Operating Officer of Morey Publishing LCC), Ellen Cooperperson (Chief Executive Officer of Corporate Performance Consultants), and Beth Meixner (President and Founder of Moxxie Network LLC and Moxxie Mentoring Foundation Inc.). These women—moderated by Fawn Germer (pictured in center)—courageously shared their own experiences, challenges and successes with Work and Life.

Then we honored the amazing recipients of the 2014 When Work Works Awards including: BDO USA, LLP (Melville), Creative Plan Designs, Ltd., (East Meadow) KPMG, LLP (Long Island). This award (formerly the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility) recognizes exemplary employers for using flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy to increase business and employee success.

As part of the Women's Leadership Conference, Mom-mentum is proud to be serving as the host organization for the Long Island region’s participation in the When Work Works (formerly Alfred P. Sloan) Awards for Excellence in Business Effectiveness and Flexibility. As host, Mom-mentum has committed to spreading the word about the award, encouraging Long Island employers to apply and consulting with a broad range of business and community leaders to help promote this award for the benefit of the Long Island business community and this region.

The When Work Works Award Winners of 2014 are from 42 different states and the District of Columbia. They represent a variety of industries ranging from technology to manufacturing to finance to health care. And all are proving that effective and flexible workplace practices can work in organizations of all sizes.

The When Work Works Awards is a national initiative led by the partnership of Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Judy Martin

Mom-mentum offered its first annual scholarship honoring Judy Martin, journalist and WorkLife Nation founder, who strove to promote a work-life balance, teaching professionals how to manage their stress in order to achieve success and serenity in their careers and in their lives. Ms. Martin was a consistent supporter, advocate and presenter at the annual NAMC Work/Life Conference for many years. She has left with us a legacy of truth, wisdom and appreciation for the present.

This scholarship fund has been established in her honor to remember the work that she did and to help support women who will continue on this path.

The recipient of this year's award in the amount of $1000 was granted to Veronica Gerosimo to continue Judy Martin’s mission of ensuring professional well-being and improving the workplace culture for maximum productivity, innovation, and creation. The award was presented by Danielle Campbell, News12 Anchor and best friend of Judy Martin.
